General Appearance and Description

The pug is very adorable dog and needless to say, it is also one of the most popular. Pug puppies are small toy dogs, no bigger than 14 inches in height, but also got an attitude.

It is also sensitive and gentle. A very loyal dog, it is small and stocky with a well-rounded head. The muzzle is blunt and square in shape. The eyes are large and this adds to its adorable looks.

It has thin ears that are button-shaped with deep wrinkles on the face. It has a short coat and comes in several colors such as brown, black, and silver.

Basic Temperament

The pug has a big personality. It is very stubborn but it is adorable. This breed will sit on your lap and will be your companion. It is very playful and it will sleep on your bed if you allow it to.

Accordingly, this dog will get lonely if it is isolated. It is highly sociable and will do well with kids because it is also very playful. It is the kind of dog that wants to be a part of your family.

It is a low activity dog which means it does not last long in physical terms. This means it gets tired easily if you play with it or let it run.

Care Required

Pugs are voracious eaters and they just love to eat. This is why you need to keep a close watch over their diet. They are also terrible shedders. Their fur will find its way to your car, your carpet, and everywhere else.

It needs very minimal grooming but you still need to check for fleas and ear mites. Another thing you need to watch out for is extreme temperature. Pugs cannot endure extreme temperatures and will die.

You need an air-conditioner because this dog cannot live in hot or humid areas. You should also protect its large eyes.

Exercise Requirements

Pugs do not need a lot of exercise. A daily walk for two blocks should be enough. They easily get tired so you do not have to spend so much time playing with them.

Training

This dog is very difficult to train. A lot of dogs would have learned a few commands after several sessions but you need to exercise more patience with this dog.

Height and Weight

Pugs can grow to about 11 inches in height or about a foot and can weigh up to 14 pounds.

Health and Longevity

If you are responsible enough, this breed can live up to 15 years. As far as health is concerned, this dog easily catches colds so you better watch out and make sure you have access to a veterinarian right away.

This dog is also prone to weeping and you need to take care of its eyes. Do not feed this dog a lot because it loves to eat and it is very likely to be obese and therefore live a shorter life.

Suitability

Pug puppies are highly suitable for families that have children and for people who want a toy dog who is loyal and adorable. This is one of the best pets for children because of its playfulness. This is a good pet if you want an indoor dog.

However, it is not a dog for you if you cannot tolerate fur in your house. This dog sheds a lot and no matter how much you clean your house, you will always find fur. This is also not an ideal pet if you do not have patience in housebreaking a dog.

It will take time to train this breed and you should be prepared to clean up its mess for several months.
